Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Caregiver and Children,
This week I would like to take the opportunity to celebrate the many wonderful things that happen here at Puketaha School. Top of the list is the every day team work and support of each other we experience each day. One of our school charter goals is to support and challenge. I can assure you that both aspects of this goal are alive and well. This week I met with a representative from Sport Waikato. Her first remark to me was how good it is to walk into a school and see 'kids being kids'. I thought about this a little more once she went and thought that this is one of the things that makes Puketaha so special. Yes, we have rules, guidelines and regulations we must and do follow. But we consistently use a 'common sense' approach to how we execute these guidelines and to date have ensured that we are still able to create an environment that does not compromise the need for children to explore, create and risk take. This I feel we need to celebrate.
Last week I had the privilege of taking a wonderful group of 38 Year 7 and 8's to Totara Springs for Sports Camp. This Sports Camp is made up of 10 other schools spread from Auckland down to Taranaki. It is a sporting experience that allows children to excel and be challenged, build and show resilience, and be a part of a team where their contribution matters. Our team of 38 were spot on. A prime example of their connectedness and team moral was during the swimming competition. At the end of each race one of our kids would be at the end of the pool waiting for the swimmer to wrap a towel around them. This team spirit appeared to be unique to Puketaha and really showcased the special character and morale that Puketaha Kids have. Thank you to Miss Mateni, Mr Harper and Mrs Moetara for their time, energy and support of the children on camp.
Finally, we have our Spring Fair just around the corner (21st September). This is always a great occasion for everyone. Along with our P.T.A, our children are readily planning their stalls of games and food. We are still in need of support, especially for the set up and monitoring of the Garage Sale. Our job chart will continue to be out at the gate in the Heart of the School each morning, if you are able to offer your support please do sign up.
Warm Regards
Geoff
